Community

Psychological research addressing resilience has been found to be most efficient when a community-based approach is taken.

For three years, the Resilience Research Lab worked collaboratively with a Community Advisory Board. The board consisted of members from the local community, who worked with children and families. These included representatives from a variety of non-profit associations, the public school system and private practice. From 2008 to 2011, this Advisory Committee met to discuss what was going on in our community, what was working and what needs had yet to be met. The board also highlighted the need for prevention measures and programs. This board assisted the lab with building relationships within our community.

Over the years, the Resilience Research Lab has consulted with various organizations including:

  • Nanaimo Youth Services Association
  • Boys and Girls Club
  • School District #68
  • Aspengrove School
  • Discovery Youth and Family Services
  • Nanaimo Unique Kids Organization
  • Central Vancouver Island Crisis Society
  • Ladysmith-Nanaimo Coalition of Youth Services
  • Campbell and Fairweather Psychology Group
  • University of British Columbia
