Admission Requirements

In order to gain admission into the ADGISA program, students must provide documentation showing completion of either a

  • Bachelor's degree or higher (in any discipline) from an accredited university or college, or a
  • Technical diploma or associate degree in a topic related to Geography or GIS, such as Resource Management Officer Technology (RMOT), Fisheries and Aquaculture, Forest Resources Technology, Computer Science (ITAS), Cartography, Geomatics, etc. from an accredited university, college or technical institute.

Applicants must provide evidence of having completed an introductory GIS course from an accredited post-secondary institution, preferably within the last three years. The program is taught and assessed in English. Students whose first language is not English may be required to show evidence of proficiency in English (i.e., min. TOEFL 550, IELTS 6.0).

Recommendations for Admission

Academic or applied experience in remote sensing, computing science, and databases is advantageous.

Laddering Agreements

Students who have completed the VIU Forest Resources Technology Diploma program are eligible for direct entry into the Advanced Diploma in GIS Applications Program, provided that space is available at the time of application.
