Tentative Course Scheduling for Philosophy

Not all required philosophy courses are offered every year.  Students planning on pursuing a major or minor in philosophy are urged to meet with a BA Degree Advisor to plan their course selections. The following gives a tentative schedule of required philosophy courses, but the schedule could change due to factors such as enrolment. 

Required Courses for Philosophy Majors

First Year Core Courses: PHIL 100, 111, 112

  • all three will be offered every fall and spring semester

Second Year Historical Courses:  PHIL 200, 241

  • PHIL 200 will be offered in the fall of even-numbered terms, e.g., F2024, F2026
  • PHIL 241 will be offered in the fall of odd-numbered terms, e.g., F2023, F2025

Second Year Logic/Reasoning Courses:  PHIL 251, 252

  • PHIL 251 will be offered in the spring of odd-numbered terms, e.g., S2023, S2025
  • PHIL 252 will be offered according to demand

Third Year Philosophy of Mind Courses: PHIL 361, 362

  • PHIL 361 or 362 will be offered in the spring of even-numbered terms, e.g., S2024, S2026

Third Year Epistemology Course: PHIL 363

  • PHIL 363 will be offered in the fall of even-numbered terms, e.g.,  F2024, F2026

Fourth Year Moral Theory Course: PHIL 443

  • PHIL 443 will be offered in the fall of even-numbered terms, e.g. F2024, F2026

Non-Required Courses

Other courses will be scheduled according to interest or demand.  When PHIL 248 or PHIL 448 is being offered, the current topic will be posted on the department website under PHIL 248 / 448 Topics.
