Miko Betanzo, PhD MArch

PLAN 504: Community Design

About Miko: Dr. Betanzo is a practising urban design and planning professional currently responsible for new development in Downtown Victoria, BC. As a former Civil engineer, Miko was drawn to planning out of sheer guilt for his contributions towards sprawl - and because of a lifelong leaning toward design as well as a penchant for the good life. After graduating with a PhD in Architecture from the Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand, the transition from sprawl spreading road builder to an urban design dandy was complete. His research interests include environmental behaviour, particularly in relation to the understanding of preferences, as well as the metrics of successful place-making, transportation planning, identity and the built environment, living traditions and classical architecture, design pedagogy and story telling.
