E-MAILING YOUR CLASS LIST(S) FROM VIU AND FROM HOME

Some of you have been asking for instructions on how to send an e-mail message to your class list(s) from an off-campus or home computer. (You can use this same method on campus, as well). Using the handy srsmail system is a secure way of sending messages to your class list(s) without exposing the names/e-mail addresses of the other students in your class(es).

***IMPORTANT NOTE: When sending class list messages from home, you must be logged in to VIU Webmail.***

INSTRUCTIONS:

If you are OFF CAMPUS, log on to VIU Webmail http://webmail.viu.ca then go to STEP 1:

If you are ON CAMPUS, simply go to STEP 1.

STEP 1:     Open a new e-mail message to compose.

STEP 2:     In the TO: field, enter your course e-mail address following this syntax:

                  CRSE_NUM_SECTION@srsmail.viu.ca

Example:  If you (or any person with grade-entry permission for that class) were to compose an e-mail message to send to the CRIM 111 F18N01 class, the mailing list address you would enter would be:

                  CRIM_111_F18N01@srsmail.viu.ca

Note: Those are underscores, not dashes, between CRIM and 111 and F18N01.

If you are sending one message to several classes, separate the mailing list address with a semi-colon and a space.  Example:

CRIM_111_F18N01@srsmail.viu.ca; CRIM_112_F18N05@srsmail.viu.ca

STEP 3:     You will receive a confirmation SRS Mail list processor report from srsmail@vaxmail.viu.ca which will list all the students to whom the e-mail was sent (and list the students who weren't sent the e-mail because they have no e-mail address in their student record ).
